CWP Energy have presented plans for Caple Rig Wind Farm and have submitted a Scoping Report to the Energy Consents Unit (ECU).
CWP Energy are pleased to announce that a Scoping Report, for the proposed Caple Rig Wind Farm, has been submitted to the Scottish Government’s Energy Consents Unit to request a formal Scoping Opinion.
This follows two Community Exhibitions which were held locally in Ewes and Langholm on 22nd January 2025.
Situated approximately 8km north of Langholm in Dumfries and Galloway, Caple Rig Wind Farm is a 217 megawatt (MW) scheme comprising of 31 turbines and a co-located Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The proposed turbines vary in tip height from 180m to 250m and occupy both commercial forestry and open farm ground.
The new proposal considers issues raised regarding the previous Faw Side application. The wind farm is more compact, with turbines removed from the north in the Scottish Borders area in addition to turbines removed from the south and eastern side. Overall, it is set further back on to the higher ground, and further away from the A7.
As the statutory consultees review the Scoping Report and advise on the scope of works and the requirements for an Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIAR), CWP Energy will be focusing on having detailed conversations and discussions with local groups, local residents and the Community Councils. Any initial questions about the proposal can be sent to the following email address: [email protected]
Gillian Cropper, Projects Director at CWP Energy, said: “CWP Energy were pleased to hold two pre-scoping community exhibitions on the 22nd of January, in Ewes Village Hall and the Buccleuch Centre, in Langholm. We extend our sincere thanks to all of those who attended, engaged with project materials, and provided initial feedback to the team.”
Rod Wood MBE, Managing Director at CWP Energy, said: “We are pleased to scope this scheme and submit it to the Scottish Government for their consideration. With Caple Rig, we are determined to continue to play our part in supporting the drive to net zero emissions and Scotland’s transition to a green economy. Caple Rig Wind Farm will continue our investment legacy, and we will be undertaking valuable discussions with the local residents and community groups to ensure their suggestions and feedback is taken into account.”
Caple Rig will be a nationally important scheme which would contribute to Scottish net zero targets, as annually, the amount of electricity generated by the proposed development would power the equivalent of over 228,000 homes.
