The Met Office is becoming increasingly concerned about the pace at which global temperatures are rising. Recent climate predictions suggest that the coming years could bring some of the hottest conditions experienced worldwide. These forecasts highlight the growing impact of human activity on the environment and push the need for countries to respond to climate change.
Climate experts predict that temperatures may temporarily rise above internationally recognised limits of 1.5 degrees, which was placed during the Paris Agreement. Although this may not represent a permanent long-term increase, it demonstrates how close the planet is to dangerous warming levels.
The Annual global mean near surface temperatures for 2026-2030 are predicted to range between 1.3-1.9 degrees above the 1850-1900 level. The Met Office also gives an 86% chance that a year between 2026-2030 will be the warmest year on record, and gives a 91% chance that a year between 2026-2030 will exceed the 1.5 degree, and a 75% chance that the 5-year mean will exceed 1.4 degrees, but a less than 1% chance that in the next 5 years, a year will exceed 2 degrees.
