Sanquhar II
Wind Farm

Sanquhar II Wind Farm,
Dumfries & Galloway and East Ayrshire

A 44 turbine extension to Sanquhar Wind Farm, generating 308MW, Sanquhar II Wind Farm will be the 4th largest wind farm in the UK. Scottish Ministers granted planning consent for the project on 31 August 2023.

Two of the turbines will be 149m to tip, with the remaining turbines being 200m to tip. The development also includes an energy storage facility to improve grid stability and benefit renewable electricity production.

Planning conditions are currently being discharged with the local planning authorities and initial site investigation work is underway. Construction is due to begin onsite in 2025, with the wind farm becoming operational in 2026.

Our ‘Buy Scottish’ strategy will be applied when appointing the Scottish contractors to work on the wind farm, which also includes the energy storage facility.

44 turbines
Power for over 335,000 homes each year
Will offset around 540,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year

Community Investment

Sanquhar II Wind Farm will deliver environmental, social and economic benefits for local host communities and Scotland, for its 40-year operational lifetime. Sanquhar II’s yearly investment will be available to its host communities.
