CWP Energy is pleased to confirm that construction of the Sanquhar II Wind Farm has reached its next important milestone, with the first turbine foundation pour now complete.
Located across Dumfries and Galloway and East Ayrshire, the £400 million project will see a total of 44 turbines installed, making it the fourth largest onshore wind farm in the UK. Once operational, it will generate enough clean electricity to power more than 335,000 homes annually.
Civil engineering firm Jones Bros are delivering the infrastructure work, including turbine foundations, access tracks, substation platforms, and other key elements. The first concrete pour was completed using on site batching facilities, helping reduce transport impacts and support local delivery efficiency.
Construction activity will continue into 2026, with first power from the site expected in 2027.
Sanquhar II represents a major addition to CWP Energy’s growing renewable energy portfolio and reinforces the company’s commitment to building long-term, sustainable energy infrastructure across the UK.
Rod Wood MBE, Managing Director of CWP Energy, said:
“This milestone marks the beginning of a project that will play a major role in shaping the UK’s renewable energy future. Sanquhar II is a central part of our mission to accelerate the transition to clean energy, and we’re pleased to see strong progress on site thanks to the expertise of our construction partners.”
Project Manager for Jones Bros, Jonathan Maitland, who is currently leading a team of around 100, including apprentices and trainees, which is expected to grow to 200, said: “Completing the first pour is always a special milestone on wind farm schemes. “Our highly skilled team has worked tirelessly and efficiently to reach this stage of the project, and we look forward to making further progress in the coming weeks and months.”
