CWP Energy is pleased to announce the successful completion of the first wind turbine blade delivery to Sanquhar II Wind Farm.
The milestone marks a significant achievement for the project and the wider renewable energy sector, as it is believed to be the first time that two turbine blades have been transported in convoy using blade lifter technology by Collett & Sons Ltd. The innovative transport operation enabled the components to be safely and efficiently delivered along the approved route to site. Blade deliveries have begun during daytime hours for the first two weeks before transitioning to evening transport operations.
Blade lifters allow turbine blades to be raised and rotated during transport, helping navigate challenging road layouts, tight bends and changes in elevation. The successful convoy movement demonstrated the effectiveness of this approach and highlighted the close collaboration between the project team, transport specialists, local authorities and support crews.
Stuart Walker, Chief Operations Officer from CWP Energy said:
“The successful arrival of the first blade at Sanquhar II is an important milestone for the project. Delivering two blades simultaneously using blade lifters represents a significant logistical achievement and showcases the innovation being applied across the wind industry to safely transport increasingly large turbine components. We would like to thank everyone involved in planning and executing this operation.”
Ahmad Kamel El Khatib, from Vestas, who are supplying the turbines for the site, said:
“The successful completion of the first blade‑transfer operation — delivered within the planned execution window — represents a significant achievement and a source of genuine pride. This operation has been the subject of extensive discussion, preparation, and alignment with multiple stakeholders for more than a year. Observing its seamless execution is both gratifying and a testament to the disciplined coordination, technical excellence and collective effort invested throughout the process.”
Paul Worth, Senior Project Manager, Collett & Sons Ltd, said:
“Reaching this stage of the project and seeing both blade lifters now in operation is a significant achievement for everyone involved. It reflects months of careful planning, coordination and close collaboration between CWP Energy, Vestas and all project stakeholders. I’d like to thank everyone across our teams for their hard work, commitment and expertise in helping bring the project to this point.”
The delivery forms part of the ongoing construction programme at Sanquhar II, which will contribute to Scotland’s renewable energy generation capacity and support the transition to a low-carbon future.
Further component deliveries will continue over the coming weeks as construction progresses on site.
