Wind Farm Operations Manager

CWP Energy are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to work across our portfolio of wind farm sites, primarily in Dumfries and Galloway.

Job Description

To manage wind farm sites in order to maximise availability and generation of the turbines and ensure that all associated infrastructure (including grid connection and HV infrastructure) required for the safe operation of the site is maintained and serviced on a timely basis. The role will also involve liaising with the local Distribution Network Operator in order to manage planned and unplanned outages. The successful candidate will also act as the appointed Senior Authorised Person (SAP) for each of the sites (under the HV Safety rules).

Key Responsibilities

  • To be the main point of contact for all site activities especially in relation to scheduled and unscheduled maintenance visits by the turbine supplier site technicians under the Service and Availability Agreements (SAA).
  • To be the first point of contact for grid issues – including outages and constraints; liaising with the Natural Power Control room (where necessary) in order to minimise disruption and maintain maximum output whenever possible.
  • Minimise all downtime and work proactively with turbine suppliers under the SAA in order to schedule component replacements/major works during ‘low wind’ periods.
  • Schedule all maintenance work and servicing on an annual basis and record planned grid outages so that the support team can inform the off-takers of the plans for each site.
  • Agree an annual budget for the maintenance of the site, including turbine drainage, roads, facilities management, substation buildings and any other required works, and liaising with appointed contractors to oversee the works and ensure safe delivery.
  • Implement HV Safety rules, acting as the SPA where necessary and supporting switching operations, in order to minimise downtime.
  • Facilitate internal and external meetings, record minutes as appropriate and checking that actions agreed are followed up and cleared.
  • Stay up to date with all required training and certificates in order to retain SAP status, and to be able to climb up and inspect turbines as required.
  • Internally inspect all turbines across the fleet, providing feedback to turbine suppliers and agreeing actions/work as necessary.
  • Induct external contractors and inspect RAMs before authorising works.
  • Support the hand-over of new sites, assisting with Customer walk-downs and collation of final snagging lists prior to achieving Take-Over.
  • Be responsible for any other activities that promote the safe operation of the site and maximise the generation of the wind farm.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in operations management within wind energy or related sectors.
  • Climbing certificate for turbines is desirable but not essential, as training can be provided.
  • NEBOSH (Health & Safety) or HV qualifications would be advantageous.
  • Full valid driving licence.
  • The role will be based in Dumfries & Galloway so candidates from this area are preferable.

Salary: Competitive, depending upon experience.
